WARM-UP (15-20 MINUTES)
Every session begins with a dynamic warm-up that includes swimming laps, treading drills, and mobility exercises. This prepares the body for the intensity of practice and reduces the risk of injury.
The 18 and under program at Invictus Aquatics is our flagship youth water polo team, designed for high school-aged athletes who want to compete at the highest level in Orange County and across Southern California. This program runs year-round with structured seasons that align with the national water polo calendar, giving athletes consistent training and ample tournament opportunities throughout the year.
Athletes in the 18U program train multiple times per week under the guidance of our most experienced coaches. Practice sessions are structured around technical skill refinement, tactical game preparation, position-specific training, and physical conditioning. The goal is to develop complete players who can perform confidently in any game situation, whether they are running a six-on-five advantage, pressing a full-court defense, or executing under pressure in the final minutes of a close match.
Competition is a core part of the 18U experience. Our teams participate in regional and national tournaments, including high-profile events where college coaches are actively scouting. For athletes with college water polo aspirations, this program provides the visibility, preparation, and coaching support needed to pursue recruitment opportunities at the collegiate level.
Beyond the pool, our 18U athletes are expected to model the values of Invictus Aquatics: belief, excellence, and unity. They are leaders within our club and mentors to younger athletes in our development programs.
The 16 and under program serves as a critical development stage for athletes building the skills and competitive experience needed to succeed at the highest levels of youth water polo. This program is ideal for middle school and early high school athletes who are serious about improving their game and competing against strong opponents in Orange County and Southern California.
Training in the 16U program emphasizes foundational skill mastery alongside the introduction of more advanced concepts. Athletes work on shooting accuracy, passing under pressure, defensive positioning, counter-attack movement, and water polo-specific conditioning. Our coaches design practices that challenge athletes to think quickly and execute cleanly, preparing them for the speed and intensity of competitive tournament play.
The 16U program also focuses heavily on game sense and water polo IQ. Athletes learn to read defenses, anticipate plays, communicate with teammates in the water, and make smart decisions under pressure. These skills separate good players from great ones, and developing them early gives our athletes a significant advantage as they move into the 18U program and beyond.
Participation in the 16U program includes regular practices, local league play, and tournament competition. Our coaching staff works closely with each athlete to set individual goals and track their progress throughout the season, ensuring that every player is improving and staying motivated.
REGISTER FOR 16UThe Crest Masters program at Invictus Aquatics is built for adult water polo players who want to stay competitive, stay fit, or rediscover the sport they love. Whether you played in college, grew up in OC club water polo, or are picking up the sport for the first time as an adult, the Crest Masters program offers a welcoming and competitive environment for all skill levels.
Masters water polo is one of the fastest-growing segments of the sport in Southern California, and our program reflects that momentum. We offer regular practice sessions that balance competitive scrimmage play with structured drills focused on skills, conditioning, and tactics. The intensity is real, but the atmosphere is one of camaraderie and mutual respect among players who share a passion for the game.
For athletes who want to compete at the tournament level, Crest Masters fields teams in regional and national masters water polo events. For those who prefer a more casual approach, our drop-in sessions allow players to jump into practices on a per-session basis without the commitment of full-season registration. This flexibility makes the Crest Masters program accessible to busy professionals, parents, and anyone who wants to stay active in the pool.
The Crest Masters community extends beyond practice. Our members organize social events, participate in charity tournaments, and form the backbone of the broader Invictus Aquatics club culture. If you are an adult looking for a masters water polo program in Orange County, Crest Masters is your team.
JOIN CREST MASTERS
In addition to our core team programs, Invictus Aquatics hosts clinics and special events throughout the year designed to accelerate skill development and expose athletes to high-level coaching. These events are open to both Invictus members and athletes from other clubs who are looking for additional training opportunities in Orange County.
Our guest coaching clinics feature experienced coaches and former professional or collegiate players who bring specialized expertise to the pool deck. Clinic topics vary but often include position-specific training for goalkeepers, shooters, and defenders, as well as sessions focused on game strategy, mental performance, and advanced conditioning techniques. These intensive sessions give athletes a concentrated dose of high-quality instruction that complements their regular training.
Tournament preparation camps are another key offering. Before major competitions, Invictus Aquatics runs focused training blocks that simulate tournament conditions, refine team systems, and prepare athletes physically and mentally for the intensity of multi-game weekends. These camps are especially valuable for athletes gearing up for showcase events where college recruitment scouts will be present.
We announce all clinics and special events through our club communications and on the schedule page. Spots are often limited, so we encourage athletes and families to register early when new events are posted.
VIEW SCHEDULE & EVENTSA typical practice at Invictus Aquatics runs between 90 minutes and two hours, depending on the age group and season. Sessions are structured to maximize time in the water while keeping athletes engaged, challenged, and developing. Here is what a standard practice looks like.
Every session begins with a dynamic warm-up that includes swimming laps, treading drills, and mobility exercises. This prepares the body for the intensity of practice and reduces the risk of injury.
Focused drills targeting specific skills such as passing, shooting, ball handling, defensive positioning, and transition play. Coaches provide real-time feedback and adjust drills based on the needs of the group.
Small-sided games, set play walkthroughs, and situational drills that build game awareness and team cohesion. This is where athletes learn to apply their individual skills within the context of team strategy.
Full-speed game play that allows athletes to compete and coaches to evaluate progress. Scrimmages are coached, meaning play is paused for teaching moments and adjustments.
Easy swimming followed by a team huddle where coaches recap the session, highlight areas of improvement, and preview upcoming practices or events.
Athletes should come prepared with a water polo suit or swimsuit, goggles for warm-up laps, a water polo cap (provided by the club for competitions), a water bottle, a towel, and sunscreen for outdoor pool sessions. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before practice starts to check in with coaches and be ready to enter the water on time.
Invictus Aquatics utilizes pool facilities across Orange County to accommodate our athletes and provide the best training environments available. Pool locations may vary by season and age group, and specific addresses are communicated directly to registered athletes before the start of each session. Our facilities are selected for their water polo-ready pool dimensions, lane availability, and accessibility for families throughout OC.
